2016 SACE Stage 2 Society and Culture
Welcome to the class of 2016 and to your parents/caregivers!
Students explore and analyse how social, political, historical, environmental, economic and cultural factors affect different societies; and how people function and communicate in and across cultural groups. They develop skills, values and understandings that enable effective participation in contemporary society.

Handbook for Ms Grant's class:
Please take special note of the due dates for the seven tasks on page 13.
Details for each task will gradually appear in the sub-menu above. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. |
A reminder of my pitch at the 2015 subject selection assembly:
You should choose Society and Culture because…
…you think you can do a better job of running the country than our politicians. …you’ve suddenly realised that you’ll be allowed to vote in a year or two. …you’re sick of all the jokes about "Lizbef" and want to know how the Playford Alive development is designed to improve living standards. …you’re worried about the effect the Holdens closure will have on our community. …you believe South Australia’s new P-plate and lock out laws unfairly target young people. …you want to understand why Adam Goodes speaking out about racism provoked such a massive response. …you predict that 2016 will be the year that the Australian Government legalises same sex marriage. …you get fired up when you watch shows like Go Back to Where You Came From or watched video clips like Waleed Aly talking about climate change on The Project. …you want to find out more about Scott Neeson, who grew up in Elizabeth and later quit his job as a successful Hollywood executive so he could start a charity in Cambodia. …you are inspired by young women like Malala Yousafzai and Emma Watson to strive for gender equity. …you want to discover how the UN used social media to create the 17 new Global Goals. |
…you don’t want to act like an ignorant Aussie when you travel overseas.
…you want to follow in the footsteps of social and cultural researchers like the late Hugh Stretton, who the new Stretton Centre is named after, and former Elizabeth school student Mark Peel, who is Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Leicester. …you want take social action with your classmates to make the world a better place. …you are already, or want to be, an active citizen locally, nationally or globally. …you have a passion for ANYTHING and want to explore the social and cultural aspects of it for your investigation. Some words of warning: You should not do Society and Culture if you are APATHETIC. This means you shrug your shoulders and say ‘meh’ when you hear things like:
Please also note that while there is flexibility over the format of your six other assignments, the SACE Board says you have to produce a 2,000 word written investigation worth 30% of your grade. |
