Background Information
(1) What are the Global Goals?
When we started our first task this year, we looked at the Millennium Development Goals. These eight goals were established by the United Nations back at the start of the new millennium and targets were set for the year 2015.
Much has been achieved but it now time to set goals for the next 15 years. Social media has played a huge part in negotiating the new goals - much more so than was even imaginable technologically back in the year 2000. The 17 new "Global Goals" have just been ratified by the United Nations and targets are being set for the year 2030. |
(2) What is the World's Largest Lesson? The first stage of implementing the new Global Goals is to "Tell Everyone!" Your generation will play a key part in meeting the targets - think how old you will be by the year 2030 and how much you hope to achieve by then.
The World's Largest Lesson coincides with the commitment to the goals made by 193 world leaders on 25th September 2015. Children around the world are coming together to learn about the Global Goals and the part they can play in achieving them. |

(3) Who are UN Youth SA?
"All of the work that we do at UN Youth is rooted in the belief that young people can and do make a difference in their communities. We foster ideas and innovation, and we give young people the inspiration and support they need to create change." |
UN Youth SA are a group of volunteers who seek to educate fellow young people about international issues and the role of the United Nations.
This year we have been fortunate to send three of our class members to an inter-school forum run by UN Youth SA, plus have a visit from Shea Spierings, the Australian Youth Representative to the UN General Assembly. I have no doubt they will help make your final assessment task fun, meaningful and memorable! |
