2022 Interaction (Group)Topic Group 3: Global Issues - People and PowerWhat assessment are we working towards? The Social Action project is unique to Society and Culture. It's a chance to make a change in the world. There are many different forms of social action to select from to achieve your group's goal. You will then evaluate how effective your chosen social action was, as a group and as individuals.
This task is a bit different in terms of what you do and hand up, so we will talk about that from Day 1 so that you are documenting your project/s as you go. |
1) Group projectsGroup projects can strike fear into the hearts of students! However, the SACE Society and Culture Interaction (Group) task is structured carefully to ensure we get the best outcomes for everyone.
There is a group grade but your individual grade will be submitted to the SACE Board for end of year results. The project is about Collaboration, and it is worth noting that to achieve an A you need to be inclusive and constructive. This discourages that classic problem where one person does all the work. It is also worth noting that your social action can be a failure, but you can still achieve an A by evaluating this thoroughly. This is great because it encourages groups to take risks, even if it doesn't quite work out. Have a read of this Seaton document summarising effective approaches for teachers to adopt for cooperative learning. What strikes a chord with you? Are there any ideas you could use in your group project? |

2) What you hand up
This is one of the tasks that is moderated, which means an electronic selection of student work is sent to the SACE Board at the end of the year to check that your teacher's grades are accurate. It is difficult to capture the process of a group project in action though. To help, from Day 1 your group should be keeping evidence of your work together. This could include meeting notes, photos, screenshots of communication (email, Teams, Whatsapp), recordings of interviews, etc.

Part 4 - Individual Evaluation (600 words/4 minutes)

3) Focus for your social action
Our Topic Group for this task is Global Issues, so your social action will be related to one of these international (or national) days (or weeks) of observance in Term 2:
|
4) Time management
Week 10 and 11 of Term 1 are allocated to planning. The only extra thing we need to do in these weeks is decide on our focus for Folio tasks 3 and 4.
Your group should be actively communicating during the holidays. The only other homework that will be set for the holidays is making changes to your draft of Folio 2 (Statue Wars).
There will be limited lesson time to finalise your social action in Term 2. The idea is for everyone to be ready to execute their social action at the start of Term 2, even though the events are spread out across the term:
We will conduct the Group Evaluation (Part 3) during a lesson in week 9 Term 2. Your group fact sheet (Part 1) should be ready for that.
Then your Evidence of Individual Contribution (Part 2) and Individual Evaluation (Part 4) will be due at the end of week 10 Term 2.
This will enable you to focus on your 30% Investigation in Term 3.
Be Aware - the Interaction Group task is only worth 10%.

- Make sure it doesn't take over your other assignments for Society and Culture and other subjects. Keep the 10% in perspective.
- It can be tricky juggling your Interaction Group task alongside Folio 3 and 4 too. Keep communication open with Ms Grant!
- If you really engage with the issue you're doing for your Interaction Group task, you can look into it more deeply for your Investigation.
