How can we avoid the following?
PLANNING is one of the assessment criteria. Suggested starting point:
Begin with a team meeting. Someone should keep minutes, including the date and a list of who was and wasn't present. Use the following questions as agenda items:
- What character strengths and skills does each person bring to the team? How can you make the most of this?
- What knowledge and understanding do you have of the broader issues involved? How do they relate to MOC? How could you research this further?
- What is the exact aim of your social action? What are you trying to change in our society and/or culture? How do believe your approach will make a difference? How can you measure this (this will be important for your evaluation)?
- Clarify what actions are needed and decide who will take responsibility for what and when (i.e. set a timeline working backwards from the date of your event). It is OK to delegate tasks to individual people - you do not need to be working on the project together all of the time.
- Share all of the above by email with any team members not present at the meeting.
Evaluations
GROUP
The group evaluation will be in the format of a whole class round-table discussion, which is recorded on a video camera. The discussion will be chaired by a student and another person can act as timer. This will count as part of their contribution to the group projects. To begin:
Each person will then be asked the two following questions, which are recommended by the SACE Board:
Your answers to these two evaluative questions should include:
You can rehearse your answers for the group evaluation and read out notes at the discussion. |
INDIVIDUAL
Individual evaluations are then recorded on your webcam, or written, in private. Your individual evaluation should also answer the two following questions recommended by the SACE Board:
Your individual answers to these two evaluative questions should also include:
IMPORTANT: For both evaluations, the focus should be on whether your social action made a difference. If you choose to discuss an aspect of the planning, or the way your group interacted, or your personal capabilities, you must relate this back to the impact it had on the success of the social action. Another tip: If you are stuck for what to say about improving the activity next time, try to frame it as advice for next year's class. I can share this with them in 2018! |
