|
PART ONE: GROUP ROLE PLAY (3 mins max.)
- Record a mock episode of Q&A with up to 6 panellists. Ms Grant will host as Tony Jones!
- Use the above script template to prepare your script and record your sources. This will need to be submitted to the SACE Board with your recordings.
Part 1A (2 mins)
- Each panellist will be asked the following inquiry question. You will provide a prepared response based on your research.
To what extent are Australia’s current policies regarding asylum seekers who attempt to arrive by boat ethical? - Your response should include a part that anticipates what another panellist might say to challenge you and rebuts this (see the script template).
- Alternatively, you can extend yourself by preparing a debate/argument with another panellist in advance (just let Ms Grant know in advance that this will happen during your recording).
Part 1B (1 min.)
- You also have to pose and answer a mock audience question (aka a "Dorothy Dixer") on a specific aspect of the asylum seeker debate.
- Give Ms Grant your question on a piece of paper before the recording so she can allocate it to an audience member.
Note:
- You do not have to agree with the point of view of your panellist!
- For SACE Board moderation, each panel will be recorded. The SACE Board will also be provided with a sheet with mug shots and SACE numbers so they can identify when each student is speaking.
PART TWO: INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION (2 mins max.)
Answer the following questions concisely in your script template and record your response using your webcam:
- What is your informed personal response to the Q&A panel inquiry question?
- Which panellist aligns most closely with your point of view? In what ways?
- How much power does/did that panellist wield in Australia's asylum seeker debate? Why?
Hypothetical Panellists (in alphabetical order)
You can also negotiate to be another panellist.
